Only scholars living outside of the U.S. who do not receive significant funding from their universities are eligible for registration fee waivers. Airport Information: The city of Long Beach is conveniently located near several major airports: Long Beach International (LGB), Los Angeles Internatinal (LAX), and John Wayne Airport (SNA). More information about the airports and ground transportation to Long Beach can be found in this document.

Transportation and Activities: To transport conference participants to and from campus, which is approximately 8 miles from the conference hotel, all registrants will receive a Passport coupon book that will provide unlimited free fares for October 2, 3, and 4,, 2008. The Passport is an excellent public transportation service: the bus makes a loop from downtown to campus, taking the ocean route and passing the Long Beach Museum of Art, the trendy Belmont Shore area, and stopping at two stops on campus. We will provide all participants with maps, explicit instructions, and also will have escorts available on 10/2 and 10/3 to help participants negotiate the system.

Friday evening and Saturday late afternoon and evening are free so you can take advantage of the many things Long Beach has to offer. In addition to walking on the beach (across the street from the hotel) and exploring area restaurants and nightlife, we recommend the following activities, time permitting: Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach Museum of Art, Earl Miller Japanese Garden, Aquarium of the Pacific, University Art Museum at CSLUB, as well as bookstores, live music, and historic sites. Dining and other local information: Long Beach boasts some of the best dining in the region. Selected restaurants popular with locals with a wide variety of cuisines, and coffee shops with free wireless internet can be found in this document.
